As a neurological research scientist, Roberta Marongiu questioned if her work related to Parkinson’s Disease was really making a difference. When her own health and wellness journey led her to take up boxing, she began to wonder if there might be a more direct way to take the science to the people. She and her husband—actor, athlete, and boxer Alex Montaldo— created stoPD, which offers non-impact boxing classes to help alleviate PD symptoms. They later expanded their efforts to a stoPD theater curriculum, which uses drama training techniques to improve voice, cognition, spatial awareness, communication skills, and mood symptoms. Learn how these two programs can help those living with PD stay active, and move with greater capacity.
