We offer non-impact boxing based classes to help PD patients alleviate their symptoms and assess their improvements through periodical follow-ups. 

We offer classes unifying PD patients of different levels of Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS). In the near future, we are planning on differentiating classes into two different levels.   

The stoPD team has witnessed firsthand the positive impact that physical exercise can have on someone diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. This is where stoPD began, giving people tools to attain a higher quality of living. We have several physical training programs in New York and Los Angeles: Boxing4Parkinson’s. See below for more details and to choose what program may be right for you.

Participants receive individual instruction by certified instructors, aerobic conditioning, emotional support, accessible facilities, physical therapy, and educational resources about fighting battling Parkinson’s.  The non-contact workout is individually tailored and each person is only pushed as far as he/she can go.

The training sessions consist of a balance of cardio, strength training, stretching, bag work, calisthenics and core training.  Sessions will typically begin with extensive stretching and flexibility exercises, followed by 10 to 12 three minute “rounds” of rigorous exercises including fast-paced running, punching heavy bags, working speed bags, skipping rope, one-on-one punching exercises with a trainer, weight training and abdominal exercises.  Some participants, dependent of their level of conditioning and special disabilities, will be allowed to exercise on stationary bicycles and treadmills during parts of the workout sessions.

Like real boxers, participants will wrap their hands, wear boxing gloves and have one-minute rest periods between rounds.  Between rounds, volunteers, as well as family members or friends, can serve as “corner men” jumping in to assist participants wrap their hands, put on and remove their gloves, find their jump ropes and move to the next station before a round starts.

To ensure safety, our head coaches are CPR and first aid certified.
